Sitting down today and going through every single detail with David (Schweiss), we found mistakes from the building construction company that are very important. There were problems with the main columns where the bifold door is to be attached at the sides. The way it was, it was too little support the weight. I am very impressed that Schweiss is making a very good quality product that can be used for different purposes from showrooms to house, shops, stadiums, NASA hangars, Army to stores, the whole spectrum of the market. You have your motors, you have your straps, you have your finished product; you just plug and play.

Now that's where single panel hydraulic doors are really nice. To sum it up, it's the only door that offers shade - a nice feature. The list of compliments goes on and on with each Schweiss Hydraulic door sold.

Sway Thai - A Unique Restaurant Design
Schweiss doors adds style to the spicy new Sway Thai restaurant in Austin, Texas. The restaurant hydraulic door opens to a large communal table area where diners can eat and socialize. "We love the door. It's great and we get a lot of comments. When it's closed, people don't even realize it's a door because aesthetically, it speaks so well to the interior design," said the restaurant owner, Jesse Herman. Austin is a city of big flavors, but interestingly enough there are few that specialize in Thai food. That's where the long-awaited Thai Restaurant called "Sway," (meaning elevated, delicious) tops the bill.
Traditional Thai food has a reputation of being very spicy and hot enough to satisfy anyones taste for heat. A newly opened restaurant in Austin, Texas does that and more. Owners, Jesse Herman and Delfo Trombetta describe their menu as drawing from Chinese, Malaysian, Indonesian and Vietnamese influences. Herman, Trombetta and Executive Chef Rene Ortiz got their taste for Thai food while living in Sydney, Australia where Thai food is wildly popular. The large Sway menu is inspired by the modern Australian style of Thai cooking, which means it's more of a contemporary restaurant than a typical traditional family-run Thai restaurant. Apparently it has been very well received as Sway was voted Best Restaurant of the Year & Best Restaurant Design/ Interior in the Austin Chronicle's Best Of Poll 2013.
Their beverage program includes Asian beers, drinking vinegars, wines, curated teas, Thai and Vietnamese coffees, but it is the menu that speaks volumes and so do people who have dined there.
This isn't your typical meat and potato-lovers restaurant. A small list of what you can expect to see on the menu includes: Po-Pea Jay, Shu Mai, General Chong's Quail, Nashi Pear Chicken, Grilled Meats, Thai-inspired Noodles, Whole Market Fish and Blue Crab. Several dishes can be prepared gluten-free or vegetarian.
Sway's designer-style glass door, located near the bar at the restaurant, opens up to the outdoor Spirit Garden patio dining area. The 11' 7.38" x 7'11" custom-made hydraulic one-piece door is segmented with numerous attractive glazed windows. The frames were ordered without a primer coat of paint so the raw steel gives off more of a rustic look. It comes with two remote controls and photo eye sensors for easy and safe operation.

"What's unique about the door is when it's open it creates this natural canopy. You can sit right up next to the window. So if its rainy or misting outside you get the benefit of the outside visual and still have the advantage of that outdoor/indoor feel," explained the owner. Once I saw this door, I was attracted to it and knew it was the right fit. I fell in love with it at first sight."
"We researched operable storefronts and operable window systems previously on the Internet. We started thinking about how they could be applicable to some other projects we were working on. Schweiss doors really caught our eye. I think we looked at every conceivable door type available. We looked at bifold, horizontal and vertical, scissor type systems, and overhead glass garage doors as well. We mostly wanted a strong connection to the outside street energy of Doc B's. The single piece storefront that moves was the most dramatic option. It's a great door, the simplicity of it is one of the nicest features of it."

The install went very well from soup to nuts. It was kind of a unique install which was designed to have a single pump open all four doors. Just from a convenience standpoint they were looking to remotely locate the pump, electrical lines and key switches in one adjacent electrical room location. Additional custom work was done to blend the doors into the kiosk. Custom side plates were also used to camouflage the two hydraulic cylinders on each door. The cylinders are hidden from the exterior when the doors are closed and the end-user provided custom fit nylon covers with Velcro closures to conceal the cylinders when the doors are open.

The year-round outdoor patio and bar kiosk, has ample seating for about 100 people. It features two custom made Schweiss hydraulic designer doors 15 ft. 1.5" x 4 ft. 4" which open at the sides and two 7 ft. 11.5" hydraulic doors opening at each end. A unique feature for this is the use of only one hydraulic pump for all four door, with four separate key stations to open and close the doors. The pump is situated about 50 ft. from the outside bar. Each door closes on a granite counter top and is fitted with electric photo eye sensors and manual latches. When the doors are open they provide shade to the area around the bar. When closed, they provide a tight seal and security to the contents inside.

Shanghai China Hotel - Schweiss Designer Doors Make Debut at Elegant China Hotel
There are no boundaries when it comes to Schweiss hydraulic and bifold doors - they're sold worldwide. The advent of the Internet years ago has expanded the name of Schweiss Doors and orders for these quality doors go to every edge of the earth. Case in point: Schweiss Doors successfully filled an order for three 12×20 ft. hotel hydraulic designer doors for the new $250 million five-star Ritz-Carlton Hotel in downtown Shanghai, China.

Imagine my surprise to be calling and talking with the president of the company. And he's washing his own car as I talk with him. That immediately told me this is a no-nonsense "down to earth" operation. I wasn't needing to wade through layers of people to get my questions answered. After that it was a routine process of sorting through the tremendous amount of information the Schweiss Door website provides. Then here we fly about 8,000 miles and then drive 100 miles from your Minneapolis airport and out here in the country we find this door factory. We see our three doors ready for packaging. I meet Mr. Schweiss and he's in blue jeans. That wouldn't happen in China. The Schweiss people were tremendously accommodating, that I can say for certainty. When they couldn't answer directly, they got back to me, usually in just a few minutes.

The architect and a project coordinator from China assigned to this lavish hotel wanted to see firsthand the workings of Schweiss Doors, so they boarded a plane in the middle of the winter to tour the Minnesota factory where their three doors were built.
They stated they wanted their new hotel to have a look of elegance. By definition, the word "Ritz" means 'luxury and glamour.' The hotel people wanted to build something nobody else had, and that included glass-front, sophisticated looking doors opening to the hotel's plaza-level restaurant.
Shipping three 12' x 20' hydraulic doors via shipping containers required some special packaging. Shipping logistics involved a time frame of three days transit from Schweiss Manufacturing to Los Angeles, then 25 additional days across the Pacific Ocean to Shanghai.
The three Schweiss hydraulic doors were fabricated from galvanized steel and specially painted. Once delivered to the hotel site, unique thermopane windows were installed on site along with a final silver-gray paint scheme. On the outdoor veranda area, three gleaming Schweiss 'window wall' hydraulic doors provide shade and shelter plus 24-hour security for the Ritz-Carlton dining adventure.
Opus One Winery - California's Opus One Winery Exudes Upper-Crust Class
The design of the vineyard shop embraces the partnership of Opus One and Chateau Mouton Rothschild, by taking the concept of the centuries-old courtyard stables of Bordeaux and merging it with modern materials and technology.
A combination of eight Schweiss hydraulic and bifold doors went into this project. The Schweiss bifold and hydraulic doors are an integral part of the design and functioning of this facility. The biggest challenge with the Opus One Winery hydraulic doors was to develop a design concept that would complement the architecture of the iconic winery, meet all functional requirements to maintain the very sophisticated equipment and conceal the complex operation from public view.

The installation went actually well. It was kind of daunting at first, but we just laid it out and pieced it together; like anything, we put our minds together and came up with a good game plan and it went really smooth. The Schweiss intallation manual was easy to follow; we didn't run into any hang-ups. The door works great and opens and closes really smooth.

The winery gave the Schweiss doors a special dramatic treatment at the dusk opening ceremonies. They had a five second opening delay and counted down very slowly. It was quite dramatic, with eight doors opening one after another at five-second intervals. It was cool seeing them all pyramiding up.
The construction company was given the "Award of Excellence Building" accolades for its work on Opus One by Metal Construction News, which also recognized it for the award-winning "Building of the Year" for its construction project.
All of the equipment maintenance takes place within the courtyard area. Opus One owns and farms more than 200 acres of vineyards in Napa Valley and utilizes the most sophisticated equipment developed for grape growing.
Schweiss Doors of Fairfax, Minnesota, supplied bi-fold and hydraulic doors made of perforated stainless steel used for the rain screens around the washing/fueling area, clerestory windows and exhaust fan.

The architect had Schweiss listed as one of the approved door manufacturers for this project. I had a good relationship with Shcweiss in the past so I decided to go with your quote. We hired a rep from Schweiss Doors to come down and help us. Everybody at the college was impressed at how the doors turned out. I remember the architects and designers specifying that they thought it was going to really be a unique and coll component to the building.

Schweiss hydraulic crane doors are clean and practical
There are at least a couple of reasons for a practical crane door setup - you don't have to open a larger sliding door in order to get the crane where you want it from one location to another. That alone can save on air conditioning and heating costs and is just plain faster and more efficient. If the crane has a large load on it to move from one location to another, then the door at the bottom can be opened.
CAID's new 54,800 square foot structure was named Building of the Year by Mid-West Steel Building Company. It contains two Schweiss hydraulic crane doors. CAID Industries is a leading company in the metal fabrication industry in the Southwest and has an international client base.
A 30-ton crane has a lot of lifting power, but in many cases, it needs a hydraulic or bifold door system to effectively do its job - That's where Schweiss Doors comes into the picture with its highly acclaimed hydraulic crane door.
“
”
I think this was the first hydraulic system Schweiss engineered that would run off of one pump. The large cylinders open up the door and lift the staircase quickly and quietly without any shimmy or wiggle - everything coming from the Schweiss factory is rugged and trouble-free. I've seen a lot of hangar and farm doors over the years and I know you won't find a stronger or more reliable door in the industry.
Gene Buboltz, pilot
Cold Spring, Minn.
CAID Industries of Tucson, Arizona decided on two large crane doors for its 160 ft. x 240 ft. building. The entry to its warehouse room has a larger sliding door at the bottom and one Schweiss hydraulic crane door, that is 61 ft. 6" across x 8 ft. 10 3/4 inches deep, sits above it. The other hydraulic crane door from Schweiss is 44 ft. 10 3/4 inches wide x 6 ft. 11 1/2 inches deep. The center interior modular rigid frame supports two 30-ton, 60' bridge cranes; an outside south bay has two 20-ton, 43' bridge cranes.
Crane door configurations can vary. Some use a bifold door instead of a hydraulic door. Some industrial companies use vertically split doors at the bottom that swing outward and some prefer a sliding door below the hydraulic or bifold crane door. It's just a matter of personal preference and what works best for what the crane doors are designed for.
The CAID Industries hydraulic crane doors were engineered for 115 mph windrating and 360 volt, 3-phase electrical with remote openers. The hydraulic crane doors are located in partition walls with bayonet doors and when the hydraulic single leaf doors are open, there is unrestricted crane movement through the partition walls.
Fast Fab Erectors, Inc. of Tucson, Arizona was hired to do the design and building work for CAID's new Tucson, Arizona facility. As a result, it was named the 2014 Mid-West Structure of the Year by Mid-West Steel Building Company, a Houston, Texas company from whom the metal products were ordered.
Established in 1947, CAID has forged a leadership role in the metal fabrication industry in the Southwest since it was established in 1947. CAID's range of capabilities includes design/build responsibility, field erection services, custom fabrication to customer standards, large scale manufacturing, and extensive mining technology and services. Materials they work with range from stainless steel, titanium, and duplex steels, to structural fiberglass, copper, plastics, and mesh. They now have an international client base. CAID also has offices in Santiago and Calama, Chile.
